The „Dal Segno Series“ is based upon a one-patch-design with a defined size of 31,5 inch x 31,5 inch (80 x 80 cm). Simply put: a square consisting of 9 x 9 identical blocks.

When I reflect on shapes and color I see an analogy to musical terms such as rhythm and harmony. The ‚Dal Segno‚ (lit. „from the sign„) marks a point on the sheet of music from which the following segment of notes is supposed to be repeated. In other words: it marks the beginning of a repeat.

The designs of this series explore different variations of repetition. Repeat in the orientation of shapes as well as the arrangement and the amount of colors. Both elements combined, create a unique rhythm. And each change in the repetitive sequence creates a completely new design.

For Dal Segno I the premise has been to create a curved design with a three color palette and find a rhythm, which creates the impression of transparency as well as the optical illusion of a three dimensional surface.

For Dal Segno II the premise has been to create a decorative, abstract-geometric petal pattern with a palette of ten red and violet shades. These are grouped into 3 light, 3 middle and 3 darker hues, plus the main and defining „Viva Magenta!“ – the Pantone Color of the Year 2023.
Für Dal Segno II war die Premisse, ein dekoratives, abstrakt-geometrisches Blattdesign in einer Palette aus zehn Rot- und Violettönen zu erschaffen. Diese bestehen aus jeweils 3 hellen, 3 mittleren und 3 dunklen Tönen, plus dem hervorstechenden und das Design definierenden „Viva Magenta“ – der Pantone Farbe des Jahres 2023.
A large group of muted colors competes with just one saturated and glowing counterpoint. And a completely regular vertical pattern is contrasted with a complex horizontal formation of colors.
As a result new rhythms emerge, a duet becomes a terzet, major coexists with minor, disharmonies dissolve into harmony.
Eine große Anzahl gedämpfter Töne wetteifert mit einem saturierten und strahlenden Kontrapunkt. Und eine komplett gleichmäßig vertikales Muster wird von einer komplexen horizontalen Aufteilung der Farbtöne kontrastiert.
